Parenting is a magical and unexplainable feeling for both mom and dad, once they came to know – they are pregnant. The bond between the parent and child has to be very strong and versatile. Yes. There is little doubt– being a parent is one of the challenging roles at the same time it is the most satisfying role that we will ever have but the role is incomplete without its own challenges.


Nowadays family life is most stressful along with loads of roles, responsibilities, and pressure. However, parents always want the best for their children. A strong parent-child bonding helps to get a far better outcome from their children, it also teaches the physical, emotional, social development and its responsibilities to their child.  Every parent and child will enjoy and experience this unique special bonding.






Importance of Parent-child bonding

Making a strong connection with your child is incredibly important for parent-child bonding. This bonding acts as a foundation for a child’s personality, choice of life, and overall behavior. Parents, the bond which you have got on your child indicates how your child progresses to be future. Here, from my experience I have discussed the importance of parent-child bonding:

è --> Children who have strong and healthy bonding with their parents can ready to develop a friendly relationship with people around them

è --> A child who features a secure bonding with parents helps to promote a child’s mental health, emotional, and social development

è --> Trust makes the communication between the parent-child bonding easier, it also improves the responsibility and caring

So, always remember one thing – a parent should have a strong bond together with your children from the start. Parents cannot behave with a 3-year old and 10-year old in the same way.

Characteristics of healthy Parent-Child Bonding

(i) Flexible or Adaptable

Parents should be friendly and versatile with their children. Try to help and teach your kids by giving clear direction, ideas, and offering some opportunities to select and neglect.

(ii)  Discipline

Discipline in children is very important for healthy bonding with parents. If you discover any kind of behavioral problem with your kids – teach and make them understand that problem instead of punishing them.

(iii) Open Communication

The way parent-child communication openly sets a healthy relationship. That bonding improves the child’s behavior and also it makes to find out new skills.

How to Strengthen Parent-Child Bonding?

To improve or strengthen parent-child bonding requires some effort and patience. Parenting is sort of a tough and tricky job but by maintaining close relationships, open interaction together with your children- parents can stay connected with them in every stage of life. Being connected is the only solution children can follow the parent’s word at the same time children’s also feel they are connected with their parents. You know what; kids are going to be more interested to share about their personal problems, problems with friends to their parents and most importantly they try to help their parents in household chores.

Here am sharing with you some suggestions you can use to strengthen your bond with your children:

1. Hug Your Child Daily

Usually, children learn and develop their behavior, character from their parents. Surprise gifts and celebrations might sound big, but an easy hug can spread tons of lovely and magical moments to your child.

Hug your child a day like – once they awaken in the morning and night before going to bed, and also as many times as you would like. Rub their shoulder and pat their back whenever they feel low, and maintain eye contact while interacting, because these habits show that you simply care and love them unconditionally.

Sometimes teens would not like physical touch or they will feel discomfort when you hug them in front of others. Do not force them – be calm, gentle, polite, and make them understand the worth of a hug. Physical and emotional support plays an important role when you are performing on strengthening the bond together with your child.

2. Eat as a Family

Yes. Eating as a family is very important to improve the bond together with your child and vice versa. When a family sits together for eating, it improves your kid's eating habit and also it sets the platform to share their thoughts and they try to start a conversation with their parents. During your eating time, turn off the television and pack up on mobile – most importantly do not rush through a meal. Weekly once spend some quality time with your children, prepare all their favorite foods and enjoy each other.

3. Turn Off your Gadgets Whenever you are interacting

I know it is quite tough to steer off from gadgets when you are frequently connected with that. But, when you are interacting with your children try to switch off your phone or put your mobile in silent, switch off the television, and the other gadgets keep it away from sight. This little habit shows that you simply value your children more than others. This habit makes your kids also do the same, whenever they are interacting with you or with any other.

4. Engage and Welcome your Child Emotions

By watching others and from parents, kids study feelings and try out to find out – the way to express their feelings. Show and teach your children, how you are feeling in different situations and the way you are handling those situations.

Encourage your child, when they point out their feelings and emotions with you. Always be available and listen to make your child’s bad feelings go away. Parents, try to understand the feeling behind their behavior. You can also help your child to express their feeling and also to beat their bad feelings.

5. Play, Interact and Spend Quality Time with your Child

Parents, try to behave like a child whenever you are playing with them. Yes. Get down, roll on the ground and play like a child. When you are playing in this way, this makes them build a habit called cooperation with you and others. Never mind what you are playing, just enjoy one another playing.

Pay attention to your child whenever you are interacting with each other. Allow your child to speak about their feelings openly. Monitor your child’s body language, tone as well as words so that you can able to understand what your child is trying to express.

Let us face together with family – life is very hectic between work and family responsibilities. So, whenever there is some free time – try to spend time together with your child. Tell your child- how much they are to you, schedule some time to do activity work along with your child, but make sure that you are completing that activity work with no distractions. Meaningful connections together with your child are quality of time, not the quantity of time – keep this in mind, make it simple and improve the bond with your child.

6. Develop and Maintain Bedtime Routine

Teach your child about bedtime routine by going to bed early, ask your child to read bedtime books, or narrate in a story manner – by following these habits regularly you can able to bring bedtime routine habits into practice. Bedtime is the only time for working parents to share their time with their children. So, make it calm and enjoyable. A bedtime routine also includes making their bed before and after sleep and at night bedtime encourages your child to read a book. Once they started reading, make them read a page, or chapter, or short book.

7. Ask and Let your Child Help you

Sometimes parents used to miss out on an opportunity and a closeness feeling by not allowing their kids to help with household chores and a few other tasks or activities. Asking your child’s opinion in any matter, make them know- how much you value his or her opinion. Yes. Of course, if you ask any opinion be prepared to accept and live with your child’s choice. So, before asking any opinion be careful about what to ask and what not to.

8. Respect your Child’s Selection

It is very important to respect your child’s selection. Suppose, you do not like her dressing sense and in another case, you liked the way your child arranged his or her room- whatever may be the scenario try to clarify the way to dress up and in another case appreciate their effort. So, always be calm and explain them clearly rather than scolding or showing the face on them.

9. Make Time for One-on-One

Spending some one-on-one quality time is very important. When you give individual attention to your child- it builds self-confidence in your child at the same time you can also develop a magical healthy bond together with your children. When you spend time together and have some interaction with your child – therein time stay away from gadgets and provide complete attention to your child. If you follow this habit, it makes your child know- how much you loved and valued him or her. Prepare a daily planner and plan some time according to your children’s schedule. Make sure that, the time which you spend with your child should be interactive.

It is a well-known fact, parenting is not easy. But by following some routines and habits regularly- you can create a healthy and strong bonding together with your children. The routines and habits make your life and your children’s life easier. Try to introduce the above suggestions in your daily routine to make a healthy bonding with your children. Once you set a strong base with your child, then it will be easy for you to improve or strengthen the bond. The love, care, support, and spending time with your child build a strong, healthy, and positive bonding.
