13 Tips to Maintain Healthy Skin

1. Take quick showers with warm water

Bathing in hot water for a long time removes necessary oils from your skin and can make some skin conditions worse. Therefore, take quick showers and use warm water instead of hot water.

2. Use a gentle cleanser or soap

Strong soap or cleanser will remove oil from your skin, much like hot water does, leaving you with tight, dry, and dull skin. Choose a gentle cleanser or soap that does not have any artificial fragrances in it. Always choose a soap or cleanser based on the type of your skin. For example, look for moisturizing soap if you have dry skin.

3. Pat your skin dry

Gently pat or wipe your skin with a towel after bathing or cleansing your face to leave some moisture on your skin and prevent it from drying out.

4. Exfoliate your skin

Exfoliation: Through this process, the top layer of dead skin will be removed, exposing the new, healthy skin underneath. Just keep with your regular skincare routine. This routine can keep your skin looking glowing, healthy, and free of blemishes and breakouts.

5. Regularly moisturize your skin

Typically, moisturizer prevents skin from drying out, protects skin, and improves its tone and texture. Always search for a moisturizer with an SPF rating to protect yourself from sun damage.

6. Eat a healthy food

Include all food groups in your eating habits. For example, fruits and vegetables will promote healthy skin. Eat dark, leafy green vegetables and other dark-colored fruits and veggies to reduce your risk of developing health problems.

Eat skin-friendly foods, which include those high in antioxidants, selenium, vitamins A, C, and E, and omega-3 fatty acids. These vitamins and nutrients provide different benefits, but they all support healthy skin.

7. Drink enough water

Every part of the body, including the skin, needs adequate water to function effectively. Hydration is essential for preventing the skin from drying out.

8. Avoid sugar products

Foods that contain sugar might cause wrinkles and sagging skin. If you crave something sweet, choose fruits and sweet veggies like sweet potatoes. If possible, use a similar sweetness to replace sugar in recipes and drinks.

9. Engage in regular physical activity

The entire body, including the skin, needs physical activity. Physical activity improves blood circulation, increases the flow of nutrients to the skin, and removes dirt from the skin’s surface. Most importantly, it also slows the aging process of the skin.

10. Give up smoking

The skin is one part of your body that is negatively impacted by smoking. Smoking decreases blood flow and damages collagen, both of which are essential for healthy skin.

11. Sleep is important

Healthy, glowing skin is one of the several benefits of getting enough sleep. Our body produces certain growth hormones as we sleep, and this causes the production of collagen, which is necessary for having healthy skin.

12. Sun protection is essential

A minimal amount of sun exposure is necessary for the production of vitamin D, but too much sun exposure can damage the skin and cause skin problems.

Note: Avoid the sun’s exposure generally between the hours of 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. All year, use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or above. Choose cosmetics and moisturizers with SPF.

13. If you have skin problems, consult a dermatologist

It is important to be knowledgeable about a few skin-related topics. If you notice any kind of skin problem, then it is time for you to consult a dermatologist.
