How To Protect Our Children From Infections During The Rainy Season Or Monsoon

To protect our children during the rainy season or monsoon, we(as parents) must prepare our homes. So, get your house ready for the rainy season, here are some ways to keep our kids safe, fit, and healthy:

1. Make Healthy Food and Drinks

During the monsoon or rainy season, children's immune systems and the digestive process slows down, so it is always best to give nutritious and well-balanced foods prepared at home. To help your children's immune system, provide them healthy foods. Serve wholesome nutritious foods in little quantities, such as fruits, veggies, dry fruits, nuts, boiled pulses, and so on.

Always keep food covered and never leave it out in the open, since it will become a breeding ground for germs. To get rid of all the germs, carefully wash fruits and veggies with warm saltwater. Give your children freshly prepared food, especially during the rainy season.

To avoid any kind of throat difficulties, serve your children hot foods and hot drinks during this season, such as veggies soup, warm milk, warm water, and so on. Make sure your child stays hydrated throughout the day by providing plenty of water.

2. Mosquito Protection

Mosquitoes thrive during the rainy season or monsoon, which puts our children vulnerable to deadly infections including dengue, malaria, and other infections from mosquito bites. As a result, it is best to dress your child in loose, full-sleeved clothing that exposes as little skin as possible. To avoid mosquito bites, you might even use mosquito nets in your home. For older children, when they step outside the house, child-safe mosquito cream can be used.

3. Clothing Choices

The rainy season requires the use of warm, layered clothing. Buy all winter essentials such as raincoats, umbrellas, jackets, and clothes for your children. Keep a lightweight cotton blanket in hand to put on your child if the temperature lowers suddenly or remove if it warms up. Change your child's diapers on regular basis and use lightweight diapers.

4. Regularly wash the Hands of the Child

Teach your children to wash their hands with antiseptic hand wash or hand sanitizer on a frequent basis. Hand washing should be done every time before and after eating, as well as after coming home from the outside, because they can carry disease-causing germs that travel from the hands to the mouth and then to the stomach, producing sickness.

5. Environment Friendly

Maintain a clean environment, especially during the monsoon or rainy season by removing stagnant water, closing windows when it rains, and so on. Mosquitoes, flies, and other disease-causing insects are prevented from swarming all over the place as a result of this. This step is pretty important during the monsoon season to protect your child from illnesses.

6. Staying Indoors

Because children are more prone to illness, especially during the monsoon, ensure that they spend the majority of their time indoors. To keep your children from going out, try organizing some fun activities for them and inviting their friends to play indoor games along with your children.

7. Maintenance of Hygiene

To avoid attracting insects, it is most important that we should keep our home clean and dry. If your home walls appear damp, try to clean that as soon as possible since they may attract mold and fungus, which can cause breathing problems in children. It is a good idea to take off your unclean shoes before entering the home. You may clean your floors with antiseptic liquid mixed with water, which will keep your home free from germs and other insects.

8. Keep a Safe Distance from Sick People

During the monsoon or rainy season, viral infections are quite common and are highly contagious. Keep your child away from people who are sick with a fever, a cold, a cough, or any other type of infection. Before visiting your child, ask your family and friends to wash their hands with antiseptic solution or hand sanitizer and wash their legs with regular water.

 9. Educate the Kids about what they Should do

Teach your children about the risks of getting wet when it rains. Also, teach children about healthy habits to follow during the rainy season or monsoon, such as:

---> Hand washing is one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of infections. Tell them that every time they wash their hands, they should use the hand wash liquid.

---> If he or she is wet in the rain, it is important that they take a hot bath with a good antiseptic liquid to limit the chances of infection.

---> Maintain a current vaccination schedule for your children. Consult your child's doctor about the right vaccination for common childhood illnesses.

---> Even if you take all the necessary precautions, there is still a possibility your little one will develop a cold or the flu. After consulting with your child's doctor, prepare a kit with medicines.

Final Thought

The rainy season or monsoon brings joy to people all around the world. These are some simple precautions that do not require any extra effort on your part to keep your toddler safe from infection. Rather than being sorry, it is always better to be safe. So, throughout this season, take care of your child and keep him or her healthy.

Happy Monsoon...!
