1. Know Your Hair Type

Without knowing the hair type it is quite tough to follow the hair care routine. Here is the simple method you can do in your home to know your hair type and density.

How to Check your Hair Type?

Wash your hair normally, using regular shampoo and conditioner. During testing, make sure that you are not doing any heavy physical activity because that can make your scalp sweat. After washing, let your hair rest for about 8-10 hours - in between do not use any kind of oil or serum in your hair. After 8-10 hours of rest, take a tissue and gently press on the scalp along with hair:

--> if there is a lot of oil on the tissue, then you have "oily hair"

--> if there is a slight hint of oil on the tissue, then you have "medium oily hair"

--> if there is no oil(i.e., the tissue is completely oil-free), then you have "dry hair"

--> if the tissue shows dryness in one part and oily in another part of the scalp, then you have "combination hair"

How to Check your Hair Density?

Again the simple method to know the density of your hair, separate your hair in the middle and check how much scalp you can able to see in the crown:

--> if you see a very thin line in the middle, then you have "thick hair"

--> if you see some scalp, then you have "medium hair"

--> if you see more scalp, then you have "thin hair"

Yes. Now take the test and know your hair type and density, then start following a hair care routine.

2. Know your Hair Texture

Your hair texture is completely based on your hair strand. Understanding your hair texture plays an important role in following the basic hair care routine. The right hair care routine helps your hair to look shiny and healthy. Basically, there are four major types of hair texture - straight, wavy, curly, and kinky. Let's take a look at the hair texture:

(i) Straight Hair - It is the strongest and fine hair and mostly has a shiny and glossy look.

(ii) Wavy Hair - This particular hair texture falls under the category range between straight and curly hair because it has a slight curl towards the hair ends.

(iii) Curly Hair - This hair texture looks more dry and frizzy as compared to straight and wavy hair texture.

(iv) Kinky or Coily Hair - This hair texture is quite difficult because of its tightest curl. It also needs some special care, if not it breaks out easily.

3. Why it is Important to Follow and Maintain a HairCare Routine?

Following and maintaining the hair care routine is as equally important as following and maintaining the skincare routine - it keeps your hair soft, healthy, smooth, glowing, and also protects your hair from other conditions like pollution, dirt, and chemicals.

Haircare is very important just washing your hair and applying, massaging oil once a week does not mean that whatever you have done is right. Haircare involves proper grooming, maintenance, and most importantly you are using the right hair care products according to your hair type, density, and texture.

4. Basic Haircare Routine

A basic hair care routine will help you to achieve healthy, strong, shining, glowing, and also you can see consistent hair growth. Here are five(5) basic steps you can follow for all hair types, densities, and textures.

Step 1: Brush or Comb your Hair Regularly

All the hair care routine starts with brushing which is combing your hair regularly. Always select a large, soft, and wide comb for brushing. Glide a brush through hair from top to bottom to detangle it and followed by massaging the scalp, because scalp massage boosts circulation and in turn increases the hair growth rate.

Step 2: Wash

Once you have thoroughly brushed your hair, the next step is to wash. Use a mild-gentle shampoo for wash(try to use chemical-free shampoo). Without a good wash, unwanted impurities will build upon the scalp results unwanted oiliness in the scalp and increased hair fall rate. So, wash your hair twice a week for normal hair types and one another day for oily hair types.

Step 3: Conditioning

After wash, the next step is conditioning. Use a mild conditioner according to your hair type, conditioner helps to replenish the moisture content in your hair that shampoo wash may have removed.

Step 4: Oil Massage

Oiling and massaging your hair once a week is important for your hair growth rate.

How to do Oil Massage?

--> Oil massage procedure is simple and easy to do in-home itself- just warm the oil( you can use any oil) and apply it to your scalp.

--> Gently massage the scalp and leave the hair for an hour.

--> Finally rinse off using a mild shampoo, while washing Use only lukewarm or cold water.

Step 5: Trim your Hair

Generally, trimming is recommended once every 2-3 months. There is a myth that is - trimming makes the hair grow faster, but the reality is it makes your hair look healthier, softer, and free from split ends.
